Bonnard was all but forgotten after his death in 1947. An exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris during 1984 brought new interest in what was considered experimental for its time. What made the work from this artist so experimental for his time was the use of color, which is seen as being more expressive than the description of the painting itself. Almost making the painting come to life. Carnations, originally painted in 1921 currently resides in a private collection.
