Couch on the Porch, Cos Cob was painted in 1914 by Frederick Childe Hassam. This painting captures the feelings of Summer perfectly. You can almost feel the gentle breeze on your skin as the sun is shining down. Hassam was an American Impressionist painter who, along with Mary Cassatt and John Henry Twachtman, introduced America to the Impressionist movement. Hassams most promoted pieces include flags from World War I, some of which hang in the White House today. We have recreated the same imaginative colors and shapes using oil paint on canvas so that you can have the magic of this piece in your very own collection.

    Special Memories

This painting by Childe Hassan was originally made at the "Bush - Holly" House in Cos Cob, CT (now a designated historical site).while Hassan was in residence there as part of what became known as "The Cos Cob School of Impressionist Art". I know this because I grew up down the street from this house, volunteered as a guide there in High School and, currently, my daughter and her family live in my former home. around the corner from it. Very little has changed except that the grey building next door (once a post office) is now the home of the Greenwich Historical Society and the mill buildings across the street are long gone. It means so much to have this beautifully rendered reproduction. Also customer service is terrific!l I originally received the wrong Hassan and the return and replacement went smoothly in just a week! Thank you .
