20" X 24" Trees played out as an important theme throughout Chaim Soutine's career. With this painting, Leaning Tree painted between 1923 and 1924, Soutine features the tree front and center with a grouping of buildings tucked back in the background with nothing more than a mere glimpse of the sky. The tree had most likely grown in this direction because of the windforce it had been subjected to. This landscape was painted in Cagnes in the south of France as part of a series the artist had created in this area. This piece is part of the permanent collection at the Musee d'Orsay. Our reproduction offers the same movements in brushstrokes and composure.
